Puppy Update

Quick bits:

  • Sebastian seems to have come to us already crate trained. Yay!
  • He's not house trained. Several messes, but he might be slowly starting to get it.
  • He's very very itchy. We've tried benadryl with no luck. Oatmeal baths didn't help much either. So we're trying prednisone (5mg twice per day at the moment). It helps with the itching, but the Sebastian is very thirsty, VERY hungry, and is pretty manic ALL THE TIME.
  • Abby doesn't like him much. She's not aggressive towards him, but she also doesn't want him messing with her. So, of course, he's constantly trying to get all up in her business. He wants to play. She does not.
  • Oscar isn't a fan, but Sebastian is VERY curious about him.
  • Sebastian came to us with diarrhea, probably due to a combination of intestinal parasites, changes in food, and stress.

New Puppy: Sebastian

We got a new puppy! We saw MS Critterz post a puppy that had been found, and nobody claimed it. We were first in line to adopt him. He still has all his milk teeth, so we think he's about 3 months old (probably born some time around the beginning of July). We hadn't planned on getting a dog so young, but here we are.

Adoption day!

On the way home.

Abby Meets the Fam

Abby Stats: 8 months old, 65 lbs.

Abby is already starting to act very comfortable in the house. Travis’ mom came over, but we did a poor job of introducing Abby to her, so Abby didn’t really want much to do with her. We did a better job when my mom and dad came over; we met them outside in the garage before they came inside and let them both give her a treat. She took to them very well. We’ll have to retry it with Travis’ mom the next time she and Jimmy come over.

A New Addition

Abby Stats: 8 months old, 65 lbs.

We adopted Abby, an 8 month old great pyrenees, today from a shelter in Alabama. She is pretty timid, but that is expected considering all the change she’s been through recently. She’s also very dirty, stinky, and her fur is matted. The vet says not to bathe her for 10 days because of her spay… She got a bath as soon as we got home. lol

Day Seven with Ellie

Ellie Stats: 9 weeks old, 2nd week with us, 22 lbs
Oscar is beginning to accept Ellie. No mistakes in the crate. Ellie is showing signs that she is holding poop and pee for the outside. Biting pretty often during play.

Day Six with Ellie

Ellie slept all night and all Saturday morning while we slept in. A few mistakes on the carpet.

Day Five with Ellie

Ellie ate well, and slept well. Samson's not letting her eat until he is finished. We took her to walk around the square for the first time and she did great. She loved the attention and walked really well.

Day Four with Ellie

Ellie isn't crying as much when people walk in the house while she’s in the crate. She's playing more with Samson. Oscar the cat still hates her. Ellie is peeing on the floor sporadically. She sleep through the night again.

Day Three with Ellie

Ellie is doing better in the crate. She is now both eating and drinking in the crate. Samson started playing with her outside. She's eating well, and slept through the whole night. :D

Day Two with Ellie

Ellie stayed in her crate from 8am to 12pm and from 1pm to 5pm. She cried when she was in the crate and heard us in the house. We stopped feeding and watering after 9:30pm and kept her up until 11:30pm. She cried much less that night. ;)

Day One with Ellie

I (Lauren) decided to stay home and babysat. She's still a little hesitant in her new home. She cried all throughout the night again. Would. Not. Stop.

She's scared of the crate.

Ellie's First Night

Our first dog's name is Samson, and he is a Great Pyrenees (that is to say mostly Great Pyrenees - we think he has some Labrador in him too). He is a great joy to us, but after a couple of years with him alone, we decided he would do well with a friend.

And so we brought Ellie into our lives.

Ellie Stats: 8 weeks old, 18 lbs., born December 28, 2008
Brought home at 10:30 pm by Anna. Feels skinny. Very standoffish and scared. Cried throughout the night.
